2017 FASS Call for Entries

The Fall Art Show and Sale (FASS) deadline for entry form submissions is fast approaching. Several artists have already mailed in their form — Thank you! Please consider entering, and pass on the attached Call for Entry to your circle of artists. If display space becomes limited, entries will be accepted chronologically. See below for dates and deadlines.

There is no theme this year, just “Artist’s Choice”. If you already have created a work you like, please enter it. As long as it has not previously appeared in our event, it is welcome.

We have some MORE great news about the upcoming Fall Art Show & Sale (FASS)!

NEW!!! As usual, FASS Winners receive a quail trophy, but this year’s bases have been made from wood from the historic Venables Theatre salvaged prior to the destructive fire in 2011.  The bases can be left in their original rustic state to preserve a bit of history, or varnished to personal liking. Thanks to Russell Moore for his work at creating the bases.

Entry forms must be received by Friday September 8, 2017. Early bird draw! Submit your form and fee before that date for a chance to win back your entry fee! Artwork need not be completed by that date. Artwork is delivered to the venue on the morning of the show, Saturday September 30. This gives artists up to three extra weeks to complete their piece(s).

The Fall Art Show & Sale (FASS) is on Saturday September 30 and Sunday October 1.  The show and sale runs jointly with the Festival of the Grape at the Oliver Community Centre. The two-day event includes a competition in nine categories, public voting, exhibits and demos by featured artists, live entertainment, an evening reception, and the ever-popular draw for a stocked wine fridge.

Visual artists in all media and of all ages are encouraged to enter.  As has been our tradition for every second year, there is no theme this year, simply “Artist’s Choice”. We hope this gives you great scope as you decide what you will enter this time.

Categories include Photography, Fibre Arts, Oils, Acrylics, Watercolours, Three-Dimensional, and a revised category: Mixed/Other Media. See the category definitions (attached) if you are in any doubt about categorizing your art. Two categories for youth, Emerging Artists and Budding Artists, invite entries in any visual medium. Awards are given in each category, as well as an overall “Best in Show”.

We are offering a reduced entry fee on second entries  if you are (or become) a member of the OCAC! Non-members are very welcome, and pay $25 per entry. But a membership saves you $5 on the first entry (at $20) and saves you another $10 on a second entry (at $15), That totals $15 savings for members, the price of .. an individual membership! See details on the revised Entry Form and Terms and Guidelines, attached. Just a little incentive to enter more of your art. Fill out an entry form for EACH entry.

If you are a teacher or parent: young artists already get a great deal: one FREE entry for budding artists (12 and under) and one $10 entry for Emerging Artists (13 – 18). Limited to one entry per student. It’s a great way to expose children to the excitement of art exhibiting.  Call 250-498-0183 to find out how to involve your class of students in this terrific art project.

Please forward this email to other artists you know or print off the form and guidelines for a neighbour or friend.

Check out our website  under “Forms” or “Membership” where you will always find the latest forms. Contact olivercac@gmail.com if you have questions.   A FASS Artist FAQ is also available on our website under “Forms” if you have questions about submissions and display.

Hard copies of the entry forms are available at the Oliver Visitors Information Centre (historic CPR Station) and the Quail’s Nest Arts Centre.

Hey! Please consider volunteering at the Show! We need many hands to display, move, decorate, set out the desserts and punch, greet, and chat to visitors … Sign up for a shift (often only 2 – 4 hours). Sign up with a friend for more fun! olivercac@gmail.com

Sincerely,
