Artists on Main has been an active part of the Osoyoos arts community since 1950. From ten original members, our roster has grown to over sixty in 2018. Members meet in Studio 89, on the second floor of the Osoyoos Arts Centre at 89th Ave. and Main St. (Hwy #3), which also houses the Osoyoos Art Gallery and Osoyoos Potters Club. We welcome new members of all experience levels and encourage visitors to drop in anytime. The membership fee is $25 a year.
In-house workshops, focusing mainly on watercolour and acrylic media, are presented by competent club members and occur in the fall and spring. Periodic classes are provided for other aspects of painting such as drawing, perspective, colour, composition and design. All in-house workshops are open to members and the general public; classes are for members only. In addition to in-house workshops, Artists on Main occasionally arranges for recognized professional artists to present workshops in areas of their expertise. These workshops are for members and invited guests only.
A SUCCESSFUL and very informative Oil Painting Course was held on May 11 & 12, 2019 by Alan Wylie, an internationally known artist. Nine people attended this course for two full days of painting. Alan demoed two ways to begin an oil painting, one using acrylics first and the other using only oils. The group members were each given individual time with Alan and all felt they had gained new skills from the workshop.
The group was pleasantly surprised to have Janice Roberts attend and paint in Acrylics as well. This was a bonus no one expected. Janice also teaches and made it known that she would be happy to teach for our group at another time.

SPECIAL EVENTS 2019
Global Wellness Day, held June 8
Three Artists on Main members: Lorraine Gibson, Marcia Hurley and Pam Duncan, represented ODAC (Osoyoos and District Arts Council) and Artists on Main to demo paint pouring and watercolor painting – the creative aspect of wellness. The event was held at the Desert Sun Counselling Centre 8701 Main St. We had participation in creating art from both adults and children. Global Wellness Day is a not-for-profit day, a social project dedicated to living well. The purpose of Global Wellness Day is to ask the question, even if for just one day, “How can I live a healthier and better life?”, to direct the thoughts of both individuals and society towards “living well” and to raise awareness.
